Wally Schmidt

Wally passed away on October 6, 2017.  Wally was born November 8, 1935, to Paul and Ruth Schmidt, on their farm near Floral, SK, becoming youngest brother to Gib and Hazel. Growing up on a dairy farm rooted his life decision to continue that lifestyle. He met a young woman at the annual Milk Maid’s Ball, Joyce Ford, and quickly decided this was the person he wanted to spend his life with. They married June 27, 1959. They raised five children and their family grew to include 13 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. All his life, Wally’s reminisces and stories entertained his family. If it wasn’t a silly pun (Dad goes to check the crop and when he comes back, he tells us he’s outstanding in his field), or a re-telling of his children’s mischief, it was a heartfelt recollection of times past, mostly involving Joyce. Despite the busyness of a dairy farm, as the children grew older, they helped tremendously on the farm, allowing Wally and Joyce to take in a bit of the world – Hawaii, Florida, Mexico. Wally lived almost his entire life on his farm, a place he loved.  Wally was predeceased by his parents, Paul and Ruth Schmidt; parents-in-law, Arthur and Kathleen Ford; sister, Hazel Mitchener; brother, Gilbert Schmidt, and his wife, Joyce Schmidt.  He leaves to remember him, his family: Judy (Kevin) Tomporowski - Jason (Aarin) Tomporowski (Vedder, Beckett), Kathleen (Jason) Kulyk (John), Megan (Dustin) Tomporoswki; Ron (Wanda) Schmidt - James (Christelle) Schmidt, Ryan (Aliesha) Schmidt (Cohen); Ken (Leslie) Schmidt - Laura (Warren) Richelhoff (Zoe, Parker); Alex (Nikki) Schmidt, JT (Nick) Schmidt, Justin (Josh) Schmidt; Dean (Karen) Schmidt- Rebecca Schmidt, Colton Schmidt; Cheryl (Jeff) Prediger -Ashley (Colton) Prediger, Kayla Prediger.  Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 14, 2017 at Community of Christ Church (1st Street & Dufferin Ave.)  Interment will follow at Floral Cemetery.  Arrangements are in care of John Schachtel of MOURNING GLORY FUNERAL SERVICES (306)978-5200 www.mourningglory.ca
