October 18, 1945 – December 12, 2024
Sharon passed peacefully, surrounded by family, bravely facing cancer in her own way. Sharon was predeceased by her husband of 49 years, Lloyd, her parents, Jack and Evelyn Scarlett, her sister Marlene Lucier, brother Ken Scarlett and daughter-in-law Jan Lahti.
Sharon was born and spent her early life in Kindersley. The Scarletts moved to Saskatoon in 1959 and Sharon completed high school at Aden Bowman, where she met Lloyd. They were married soon after and, on her twentieth birthday, welcomed their first son Todd in 1965. Shortly afterward, she went to work at General Electric’s office in Saskatoon, supporting the family while Lloyd completed his Commerce degree. Following graduation in 1969, Lloyd began his career with Simpsons Sears in Saskatoon and Sharon became a full time mom with the arrival of Michelle in 1969 and Jay in 1970. Lloyd was promoted to Sears’ head office in 1972 and Sharon was promoted to suburban Toronto social life, where she thrived and made life long friends.
Seeking a return to their Saskatchewan roots, Sharon and Lloyd purchased the hotel in Radisson in 1977 and thus commenced a 27 year career in the hotel business with additional properties in Yorkton and Asquith. The hours were long and she was tireless, becoming a successful hotelier and business woman, while raising three children and keeping up with Lloyd.
Beginning in the 1990’s, Sharon and Lloyd enjoyed winters at their home in Las Vegas and following retirement in 2004, settled in the house that Jack, her father-in-law, built and became full time gardeners and number one fans of their grandchildren’s sporting and artistic pursuits.
Sharon is survived by her children, Todd (Brenda), Michelle (Gord) and Jay (Kami) and her grandchildren, Dana, Claire, Ty, Katie, Jack and Kamden, as well as brothers Gord and Lorne Scarlett. Mom / Grammy leaves with us a legacy of optimism and positivity. No matter the circumstance, everything was always fine and she was always very fortunate. While her voice was soft, none was more important and heeded. She was the understated but strong leader of the family.
Heartfelt thanks to the skilled and compassionate staff at St. Paul’s palliative care unit. In lieu of flowers, a donation to them is appreciated. Sharon will join Lloyd in a private family ceremony.
