Born in Kelvington in 1943, Rose-Anne spent most of her years in Saskatoon. Her childhood was idyllic, surrounded by loving parents and siblings and filled with her dad’s corny jokes, her mom’s fashion, sports, friends, and adventure. She started at the newly built St. Frances school in 1953 and joined St. Francis Xavier parish, which she continued to attend until her last day. She thrived at Sion Academy, where she won scholarships, played softball, snake danced through downtown, won the 1960 provincial basketball championship, and was serenaded by Johnny Cash as a teenage beauty queen.
Rose-Anne continued to the University of Saskatchewan, where she earned a BA in English and a teaching degree. She proved a skilled writer and editor, penning ads at CFQC – as well as appearing in the ads and modeling for the Bay. Rose-Anne then joined the University of Saskatchewan library as head of Production. She was an early adopter of technology, led several library reorganizations and helped create the digital Saskatchewan News Index and Indigenous Studies Portal. Moreover, she hosted parties to remember and made incredible, lasting friendships. After retirement, Rose-Anne travelled with daughter Sam and family to Hawaii and Europe and continued cultivating a spectacular garden, reading voraciously, watching movies, crushing the family in Jeopardy!, and crafting the most exquisite meals.
Rose-Anne was effortlessly chic and elegant, fiercely loyal, steely, ingenious, a sage confidant and generous with her warmth and time. Family and friends filled Rose-Anne’s heart, were her highest purpose and the source of her greatest joy. She was the brilliant light that brought us together — her greatest gift. Her astute mind, sharp wit, beaming smile, infectious laugh and glorious food kept us well nourished. Her sudden departure leaves a huge void in our hearts and lives. She is profoundly missed.
Rose-Anne is survived by her daughter Sam and grandchildren McCrory, McAuley and Campbell Skuce; son Jamie and daughter-in-law Seanine Warrington; sister Gussie Dubetz; sisters-in-law Linda (Bob) Wass, Carolyn (Bill) Bumstead, and Marylou (Larry) Doyle; many nieces and nephews; and countless dear friends. She was predeceased by husband and soulmate of 43 years, Jim McCrory; son-in-law Todd Skuce; parents Josephine (neé Cherneski) and John Sorokowsky; sisters Lil Anderson and Sue Patrick; and brothers Victor and Bill Sorokowsky.
Rose-Anne’s funeral will be held at a later date and will be announced in the Saskatoon Star Phoenix.
