Ron Thompson (Thunder Hawk Bear Claw Man) a respected Elder and positive role model in the Whitecap Dakota First Nation Community peacefully passed away in his home on April 15th, 2023 at the age of 76 with his wife and four daughters by his side.
Ron is survived by his wife Nancy Linklater, Daughters Ronda Gauthier (Steve) and Sherri Thompson, Stepchildren Steve Littlecrow, Kevin Gus Littlecrow, Rachel Littlecrow, Diane Littlecrow (Sheldon) and Curtis Buffalo, traditionally adopted grandsons, Stan Sinclair and Christopher Merasty, and traditional adopted daughter Dorthea Swiftwolfe (Vernell), Sister Cindy Rivard, Brother Brian Thompson, and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family and friends. He is pre-deceased by his parents Albert and Francis Thompson and Sister Sylvia Thompson.
Ron was born in High Prairie Alberta, February 28, 1947. He was raised in Smith Alberta where he spent time with his grandfather Moses Villeneuve. He was a hard working man, jack of all trades, eventually settling in the area of human services devoting his life to helping his people and community. Ron was a respected Elder and carried on the traditional and cultural ways as taught to him by his late grandfather Moses Villeneuve, Late Rose Auger and Fred Campiou. He shared his teachings working at the Regional Psychiatric Centre, and Saskatoon Health Authority. He was also a member of many advisory committees, such as Saskatoon Police Services, All Nations Traditional, Family and Youth Gathering Culture Camp. Ron always made himself available when called upon by the communities of Saskatoon and Whitecap Dakota First Nation to provide cultural supports and traditional teachings. Not only did he give by way of sharing his traditional teaching and culture, he also helped many people in a charitable way and never wanted anything in return. Never missing a year, Ron attended Remembrance Day Ceremonies proudly honoring his father Albert by wearing his military medals.
Family was very important to Ron, he did not ever want to see any of his children or grandchildren go without. Together Ron and Nancy took care of and raised many children including many of their grandchildren. Their door was always open. During their time with Ron and Nancy, the children were shown and taught how to live in a traditional and cultural way.
