I just received a phone call today from Joy Elves (Hoogeveen) that Sonny Pollock had passed away in Saskatoon on October 4!  I am so sorry for your loss!  
As young children in Shackleton, Sk we played together along with all the other kids in town!  He was my next door neighbour and was a good friend!  
I left home to go to high school and lost track of Ronald!  My brother Art Olson told me several years ago that Sonny was in Prince Albert. I had no idea he  was in Saskatoon!
Joy would really like to talk to Shanna but has been unable to reach her!

'Sonny" was five years younger but I remember him as a child who was fun to be with.  In the winter he lived on skates and was such a skater that he was always my first choice as a teammate when we played team games on ice.
     Silly memory, but I remember Gus Alstad , the school janitor meeting his friend Sonny in the morning and saying  "we were both on the radio again today. They said Gusty today and Sunny tomorrow"
     Sonny was always upbeat and fun to be with. He will be missed so much!

I was shocked and saddened to receive word that Ron had passed.  My condolences to Shannon and the Family.   Ron and I spent many hours talking through many of the issues confronting us in our professional lives during our many years in “Social Services”.  Ron was client centered, policy wise, so personable and caring , a team player and humorous!  He will always be in my memories....such a good person!

I am very sorry for the family's loss. I had the privilege of working with Ron for many years and countless hours as we ventured out into the Saskatoon community. He truly cared for and was committed to building the capacity and enhancing the well being of community groups and the people they served. I will forever remember a kind, thoughtful,  generous and respectful man who always seemed to have everyones best interests at heart.
I fondly remember with a smile, Ron's sense of humour, and the laugh, chuckles and giggles that were heard frequently by all that knew him. He will be truly missed. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

So sorry to hear of Ron's passing.  Ron was the Regional Director in Prince Albert when I worked there.  He truly was a good man and well respected within the organization and by the staff. He was known for being fair and considerate in any decisions he made. It felt good to be in his presence. I also remember his infectious laugh, or giggle, whatever, often at my expense on the golf course.  Many fond memories. So, not only a great boss but a good friend and I am fortunate to have known him. Our condolences to Shannon and the family. We have you in our thoughts. 

Ron hired me for my first social worker position with DNS in Uranium City. He was the best ‘first boss‘ I had. Very supportive and a bit of a trickster! I worked with him throughout our careers. Blessed be his spirit! My condolences to Shannon and family. 

My sincerest condolences to Shannon and family on Ron's passing. I worked with Ron for many years at Social Services in Saskatoon. He was the Regional Director, and my immediate boss as I worked as the manager at Income Security until we both retired. He was competent, caring, compassionate, and able to work in a bureaucratic system keeping a balance between client needs and the needs of the organization, which were sometimes at odds. He was able to get along with those he worked with both in the political system and the civil service, and was a rare individual. He will be missed.

Ron was Regional Director when I worked at the Department of Social Services. He did a good job in this role. My condolences to the the family.

Fond memories of Ron as my mentor as a young social worker in Uranium City in  the late 70's.  Wonderful, supportive and kind man.....he will be missed.  Sincere condolences to your family.


Ron hired Kevin 1999 to work in the Saskatoon Office. I left the Alberta Government after 17 years to move to Saskatoon. When he interviewed me I knew I wanted to work for him. I learned so many things from him. He was patient, kind, caring, great at engaging all kinds of people. He had an amazing sense of humour and an infectious laugh. He knew our business well and was the consumant profession public servant. He was a mentor and a friend. I will always remember him with fondness. My condolences to his family and friends. I know he will be sorely missed.  

Sonny was my best friend growing up on the farm outside  Shackleton. We were 'good trouble'.  Friends don't let friends do stupid things....alone!

In 2012 we renewed our friendship in Arizona and have been able to  spend a number of times together ever since. We will miss him.

I have met a lot of people over the years and feel like Ron was exceptional amongst that crowd. It only took a minute to know that he was kind and caring. I believe it showed not only in his calming voice but in his words. I wish that I had known him earlier in life or even had been related to him because I can envision Ron being that brother, Uncle or cousin that everyone looks forward to seeing and spending time with. 

My condolences to Shannan, the family and everyone that is going to miss him.

I grew up with “Sonny” in Shackleton, right next door. At the Shackleton reunion a few years back Sonny and I went to visit his old house. The current residence allowed the two of us to go thru the house and snoop .That brought back many memories for both of us. We played together all the time, rode our bikes, went uptown and played run sheep run around the streetlight at Coulters store. My family moved to Saskatoon in 1959. My sympathies to the family.
