Kathleen Kimler

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our loving wife, mother, and grandmother, Kathleen Kimler (nee Bodnaruk). Kay, as she was known to all, passed away peacefully on May 9, 2022 at St. Paul’s Hospital in Saskatoon. Kay was the sixth of seven children born to Mary and George Bodnaruk, and was raised on a farm near Snowden, SK. After completing her compulsory education, she moved to Prince Albert to attend business college. There she lived with the Gauk family, with whom she formed a special bond; particularly with her dear friend, Gloria, who she considered her third sister and remained close to up until her passing. After business college, she worked for Western Grocery in Prince Albert, then moved to Saskatoon where she worked at SaskTel for a number of years. It was during this time that she met her husband Ron, and the two were married on June 3rd, 1961. Immediately thereafter, the newlyweds moved to Weyburn, SK, where Ron began his medical practice. Soon to follow, were the births of their son, Brad, and daughter, Brenda. In 1965 they returned to Saskatoon, where Ron and Kay chose to share their work and family life together. Kay enjoyed her role as a mother. She was a meticulous homemaker, and worked as Ron’s bookkeeper and “managing partner” throughout the duration of his medical practice. After her children graduated, she found herself with too much time on her hands, and also acquired a part time job as a sales associate at Sears. Kay was always busy at something; preparing everyone’s favourite recipes, entertaining, or finding the perfect gifts for loved ones to mark important occasions. She and Ron had many special friends, including; former roommates, colleagues, and neighbours (too numerous to mention), who played an important part in their lives from their 20s and all throughout their married life. Family was always most important to Kay. She always maintained a close bond with her siblings and their families, despite being separated by distance. She looked forward to any reason to come together, and always held them close in her heart. She also shared a special connection with many of her “Kimler” family members, and often recalled memorable moments spent together. She cherished every moment spent with her children and grandchildren. Whether she was cheering them on at their competitions and sporting events, putting together a thoughtful care package, celebrating special achievements, attending milestone events, or checking in with a simple phone call; She met every opportunity to be involved in her family’s lives with equal enthusiasm. She will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew and loved her. Kay is predeceased by her parents Mary and George; brothers Bill, Nick, and Mike; sister Lil; brothers-in-law George and Ken, and nephew Brian. She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Ron; her son Brad, daughter-in-law Connie, and granddaughters Kylee and Ashley; her daughter Brenda, son-in-law Tom, and grandchildren Travis (Morgan), Kelli (Brady), and Nicki (Brandon). Kay is also survived by her brother Fred (Elda), sister Mary, sister-in-law Eleanor, and numerous nieces, nephews and their children. As per Kay’s wishes, there will not be a public funeral service. A private family memorial will take place at a later date. For anyone wanting to pay future respects, Kay chose her final resting place to be at the Columbarium at St. John’s Cathedral, Saskatoon. Her care has been entrusted to Mourning Glory - Acadia McKague’s Funeral Chapel.
