John enjoy having coffee with his buddies at McDonald's at the Centre Mall, the Montreal Alouettes (he played for one of the farm teams in the 50's), the Montreal Canadiens and virtually anything golf and curling. He was a friend to many and known by many different names - Big John, Big Grandpa, Pa John. He sang bass with the Saskatoon Chimo Chordsmen Barbershop Chorus for a number of years. John was proud of his Irish heritage and was able to go see his ancestral home in Tipperary Ireland, which he remembered and would talk about frequently. Over the years he happily volunteered his time and energy to many causes including the Irish pavilion at Folkfest, several curling bonspiel, including a brier or two, and of course playing Santa Claus for various Christmas parties. He was also proud of being from Quebec and was always talking about going back to Rock Island / Stanstead to have a visit and look around.
