With deepest sadness and heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Jacob Walter Smith, a beloved son, brother, uncle, grandson, cousin, and friend. Born on July 22, 2001, Jacob left this world on November 10, 2024. He is survived by his loving parents, Rick and Tamaera; his cherished sister, Maddison; and his pride and joy, nephew Landon. He is also remembered by his grandparents, Vince and Isabell Smith and Walter and Janine Katelnikoff, as well as many loving aunts, uncles, and cousins, especially his best friend and cousin, Carter Katelnikoff.
Jacob will be forever remembered for his remarkable charm, his radiant smile, and his ability to bring light to every room he entered. He was a strong, loving, kind-hearted young man whose generous spirit made him the kind of person who would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need. Jacob’s life was a tapestry of boldness and adventure—he lived fully, traveled widely, and delighted in life’s big and small moments. His love for boxing and fitness was fierce, and he was always honing his strength and skills. Jacob’s passions extended to his pets, whom he adored, and to reading, where his imagination found boundless joy.
In his short years, Jacob traveled much of the world, including all the Caribbean islands, embracing new experiences with a courageous heart. Known for his big spirit and even bigger heart, he had a gift for making others laugh, often daring to do big things for the thrill of it. Jacob’s legacy of kindness and lightheartedness will live on in the many lives he touched. He was a young man of strength, love, and resilience, whose wings now dance in the sky.
As we grieve this profound loss, we hold onto words of hope and healing from the Scriptures: “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it” (John 1:5). Jacob’s light will never be dimmed in our hearts.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, November 22, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at St. John Bosco Parish in Saskatoon. In lieu of flowers and in Jacobs name, the family invites donations to RUH Foundations for Mental Health and Addictions https://ruhf.org/donate/ .
Jacob, you have gone to the big boxing ring in the sky, leaving a legacy of courage and love. We’ll forever feel your spirit in the wind and your laughter in the stars. Rest well, our beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend.
