Irene Kozak

January 14, 1926 – August 5, 2017

It is with heavy hearts, that we announce the passing of our mother Irene, at the Saskatoon Convalescent Home.  She will be lovingly remembered by her son Leonard (Diana); and daughter Carolyn (Mel) Marud; grandchildren Charlotte (Real), Terry (Maria), Daniel (Diane),  Jenny (Curt), Chris (Antonia); and great-grandchildren Landon (Leanza), Hailee, Matthew, Tyler, Trinity, Alexander, Ava, Greta, and Orin; special friend, Paul Malakoff; sisters, Violet Wirta, Lucy Harasymchuk, Lily Ryan; sister-in-law, Agnes Stevens; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members.  She was predeceased by her parents John and Margaret (nee Bonhomme) Stevens; husband Peter; brothers, Archie and Ernie; sister Vivian Stevens; and brothers-in-law, Eugene Wirta, Philip Ryan, Steve Harasymchuk and Joe Bruno.  She was born and raised in Skead, Ontario.  Irene married Peter Kozak who worked in the nickel mines.  In 1957 they moved to Smuts, SK to take over the family farm.  When Peter passed away in 1977 Mom continued to live on the family farm as long as she was able.  Sadly, she was diagnosed with cancer this past winter.  She had surgery for colon cancer on February 16th but was found to have brain cancer on April 3rd.  The Funeral Service will be held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 1725 McKercher Drive, Saskatoon, SK on Friday, August 11, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. followed by a private family interment.  Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.  Arrangements in care of John Schachtel - Mourning Glory Funeral Services, (306) 978-5200.
