October 31, 1915 to April 2, 2011
Hazel went to be with her Lord the morning of April 2, 2011. She is survived by her daughter Maureen (Lorne) Hanson of Saskatoon, and one sister Eileen Park of Victoria B.C., 8 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Hazel was predeceased by her husband John Joseph (Jack) Law, her son Terence Arthur Law, sisters Margaret, Ethyl, Frances, and brothers Richard and Arthur.
Hazel was born in Birtle, Manitoba but lived much of her younger life in Edmonton, AB where she met and married Jack Law, a young immigrant from England. After WWll, work took the family to Calgary where they lived until they retired to the warmer climate of Victoria B.C. (1977).
Hazel was a devoted wife and mother. She loved to square dance and belonged to a group called “The Traveling Squares” enjoying dancing in Canada and the USA. She played a mean game of Crokinole and loved Bridge.
Denied her education in her youth, Hazel took her high school by correspondence in 1963 and passed with flying colors. At the young age of 83 she followed her dream and took a credit course at the University of Victoria and passed that as well. She was the oldest student ever enrolled at UVIC.
Many will remember her as one who spoke her mind and had a great sense of humour. She loved playing with her grandchildren. She ran life at full speed and never slowed down.
She faced many hardships but her faith sustained her through it all.
Special thanks go to Grace and Gloria Personal Care Home for the loving care given to her, especially Gloria, Beth and Ting. You are special people.
The Celebration of Hazel’s Life was held at The Salvation Army Temple (38 Bateman Crescent) on Wednesday April 6, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. Interment took place at Royal Oak Cemetery in Victoria B.C. at a later date.
