It is with profound sadness we announce the death of Gordon Allen Hendricks. Gordon is survived by his loving family; his wife Dorothy, their two daughters, Janice (Doug) and Laura (Merlin), and their son Doug (Rhonda), all of Saskatoon; six grandchildren; and also by three sisters Helen, Irene, and Grace.
Gordon enlisted with the Canadian Navy just prior to being old enough to do so, and spent the last two years of the Second World War as a shipwright in Shelburne, N.S. Gord worked as a firefighter with the City of Saskatoon for thirty-eight years and retired in 1985, holding the position of Captain for the last ten years of his career. He considered his time as a firefighter a highlight in his life, and enjoyed the camaraderie with his team mates immensely. Since retirement, he spent many enjoyable hours in his woodworking shop, and always loved his time with family and friends and especially his grandchildren.
The family expresses special thanks to the medical staff of RUH for their outstanding care, kindness, and compassion, particularly for the neurosurgery physicians, the staff of 6300, and the emergency department. Donations in Gordon's name are gratefully accepted by the Saskatchewan Professional Firefighters Burn Fund.
A Memorial Service for Gordon will be held on Thursday, October 14, 2010 at Acadia-McKague's Funeral Centre (915 Acadia Drive, Saskatoon) at 1:00 p.m. with Reverend Bill Unger officiating, followed by a private family interment. Arrangements are in care of Tammy Ferrier, Acadia-McKague's Funeral Centre 955-1600.
