Franz “Frank” Pfeiffer, age 87, passed away at Luther Special Care Home on Thursday May 22, 2014. Frank was born on September 23, 1926 in Andrijaševci, Croatia. He lived humbly with his parents and three siblings until 1944 when he was drafted into WWII at the age of 17. Frank was a prisoner of war for over three years, but in 1948 he was finally able to return home to his family, who had been displaced to Austria. There he found the love of his life, Maria Kempf, who he married on October 13, 1951 in Pettenbach, Austria. In 1952, Frank became the proud father of two daughters, Minnie and Hilde. Four years later, Mary and Frank emigrated from Austria to join Frank’s family in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. In Saskatoon, Frank worked at the Co-op Feed Mill, before acquiring a farm. For over twenty years Mary and Frank successfully managed a hog farming operation while raising their beloved daughter Hilde. In 1988, Frank and Mary retired and moved back into the city of Saskatoon where he spent the remainder of his days. In his retirement, Frank enjoyed winemaking and the highly acclaimed fruits of his wife’s labor in the kitchen. He loved playing German folk songs on the accordion and regularly engaged in contentious Kaiser games with his grandchildren. Frank was a boisterous, jovial, humorous delight to all those who surrounded him. He was a fixture of his neighborhood, offering a seat on his bench and friendly conversation to any passerby. His loved ones will miss him dearly. Frank is survived by his wife, Mary; daughters, Hilde and Minnie; sons-in-law, Freddie and Jim; grandchildren, Ashley, Chelsea, Christina, and Connor; sisters Katie Doerner and Mary Yaki; and numerous nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Frank’s Life will be held at the Cathedral of the Holy Family (123 Nelson Rd) on Wednesday, May 28 at 1:30pm, with Father David Tumback presiding. In honor of Frank’s life, donations may be made to Parkinson’s Society Canada. Arrangements in care of John Schachtel - MOURNING GLORY FUNERAL SERVICES (306-978-5200) www.mourningglory.ca
