With great sadness, but with joy in knowing that she had a long and happy life, our family announces Doreen's passing on February 5, 2016, at the age of 79. She was born September 4, 1936 in Regina, Saskatchewan to Theresa and Tommy Hollis. They moved to Prince Albert in 1939. Doreen trained as a Lab Technician in Saskatoon in 1954 at St. Paul’s Hospital. In 1960 she married the love of her life, Harry William (Darby) Elder. Early in their marriage they moved and settled in Regina and then Saskatoon in 1970. They adopted their son, Brady in 1963 and in 1965 their daughter Jennifer joined the family. Doreen stayed home with her kids until 1978 when she went to work at the College of Pharmacy, U of S with her brother-in-law, Bill Woronuik. Mom began a lifelong love for horses at an early age. The barn was her home away from home. Her beloved horse, TJ and later Lou brought her so much joy. She had many great experiences in equestrian riding and caring for her horses with Dad by her side. This kept her life busy and fulfilled. She leaves behind to mourn, her daughter Jennifer (Dean) and children James, Darren (Janelle), Allison (Blair), Ryan and great-grandchildren, Peyton and Paisley; her son Brady, granddaughter Cayley; sister Marilyn Woronuik; brothers and sisters-in-law; as well as many nieces and nephews and lots of friends, old and new. We would like to thank Extendicare for all the wonderful care she received. It was no surprise Mom loved being doted on, and it gives us comfort knowing her and Dad had some time together there. They are together now and that is what they wanted. Mom did not want a funeral and we will honour her wishes. An urn will be placed at the RCMP depot with Dad’s in the spring of this year.
