Bella Ethel Moore

Bella’s early years were spent on the family farm in Shell Lake where she attended several one-room schools for her elementary and high school, followed by university/normal school in Saskatoon. After convocation, she taught in many one-room schools in several communities in Saskatchewan including back to her roots in Shell Lake, Star City, South End, Rosthern and Prince Albert before setting off on an adventure with a friend to teach in Fort MacPherson, NT. Here she met her husband Roger Moore, a young RCMP corporal and after a short courtship the two were married on July 16, 1957 in Shell Lake, SK. They were married just short of 60 years before Roger’s passing in 2017.

Roger and Bella spent their early marriage moving around Saskatchewan as Roger was posted to different communities including Saskatoon, Stony Rapids, Uranium City, Regina, Yorkton and finally North Battleford where he retired from the RCMP. The family which had grown to include three children, Derek, Kerwin and Margo, moved north to Yellowknife, NT from 1973-1981 where Bella taught and made many lifelong friends. In 1981 Bella and Roger returned to Spiritwood, SK where Bella taught Kindergarten for 20 years, an age group she thoroughly enjoyed before retiring to Saskatoon in 2004. Bella and Roger enjoyed many years at their cabin at Iroquois Lake where Mom’s green thumb shone through in their huge and beautiful garden and their immaculately kept yard. The cabin was a place of hard work but also of peace and enjoyment for Bella where she wandered the woods and trail systems encountering much wildlife and natural beauty.

Bella was predeceased by her husband Roger and parents Edwin and Mabel Erickson. Bella is survived by her three children, son Derek (Joan), Aaron, Amber (Chad) and great grandsons Henry and Jordan; son Kerwin, Dustin, Kristin (Craig) and great granddaughters Kara and Kelsey; daughter Margo Pook (Jim), Gus (Rachael) and Robin. Also survived by her brother Gerald Erickson, nieces Natalie (Shane), Karen (Kelly), Ella and Danielle, and brother-in-law Kevin Oickle and sons Kevin Jr and Vincent (Linda) as well as numerous cousins and friends.

As per her wishes there will be no funeral. A private family interment will be planned for a later date at the small rural church and cemetery where Mom and Dad were married (Scandia). For those who wish, a donation in Bella’s memory can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society or a charity of their choice.
