Stanley was raised in Central City, Kentucky, where he was captain of the high school basketball team and where his lifetime love of University of Kentucky basketball began. He attended Vanderbilt University, earning both his bachelor and law degrees. While at Vanderbilt, Stanley made lifelong friends and met his soon to be wife Sara Ann Brown. Thereafter, he attended NYU and earned his LLM in Taxation.
Stanley began his career in Washington D.C. as a clerk for a judge on the US Tax Court. He continued his career as an attorney in the tax division at the Department of Justice. After moving to Cincinnati to be closer to his mother and extended family, he joined Dick Schwartz and Denny Manes to form the law firm Schwartz, Manes and Ruby, where he stayed for 40 plus years. He was passionate about his work, forming many close professional relationships and friendships with clients that spanned decades.
After 50 years in Wyoming, he retired to Sarasota with Sara to be closer to family. He loved his time with Sara until she passed in April 2018. He adored all his grandchildren and always made time for them. Stanley was grateful to have wonderful friends from Wyoming welcome him and help make Sarasota his new home.
Stanley was predeceased by his beloved wife of 54 years, Sara, his Father David and Mother Dorothy.
He is survived by his loving daughters, Jill (Alan) Spiegel of Deerfield, IL and Allison (Fred) Cochran of Sarasota, FL; and cherished grandchildren, Ben, Drew, Emma, Audrey and Chloe. He will be remembered for his love of family, calm and gentle presence and quick wit. The world truly lost a one of a kind genuine soul. Stanley was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather that will be dearly missed by all.
