Paul E. Perkins of Sarasota, Florida passed away on Wednesday, December 9, 2020, at the age of 98. After several months of declining health, Paul died peacefully at the Tidwell Hospice in Venice, Florida.
Paul was born in Richmond, Kentucky to Ben and Minnie (Kanatzar) Perkins. He was a graduate of Central High School and attended the Eastern Kentucky State Teacher’s College and subsequently the University of Dayton, Ohio. He met his wife, Joy Baker, at a dance in Dayton and they married on October 21, 1950.
Paul moved to Dayton, Ohio and began his career in electrical engineering and management with National Cash Register displaying a knack in developing new electronic products and managing highly productive teams. Paul truly lived life to the fullest through various interests. He was an accomplished tennis player, playing nearly his entire adult life. Paul was also active in a securities investment club, area men’s club and local poker club. He was an avid reader of biographies and historical novels and was well versed on the history of the world up to present day. Paul was a Freemason with the Dayton Masonic Lodge #147 and was also commissioned a Kentucky Colonel by the governor of Kentucky. He was a member and attended the Church of the Palms in Sarasota.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents and by his brother William Ray and sister Drucilla. He is survived by his wife Joy Jeannette Perkins; children Blair Scott Perkins and Paula Paige Manuel, daughter-in-law Suki, and son-in-law Chip; two sisters, Lorette Curry and Wanda Wells; one brother, Marvin P. Perkins; two grandchildren, Samantha Jeanette Arita and Jason Reed Manuel; and four great-grandchildren, Mariann Arita, Madison Arita, Mason Arita and Carter Reed Manuel.
No funeral services will be held at this time as it was Paul’s wish to keep his family and friends safe and healthy and not have them gather.
The family is requesting no flowers or gifts, please keep them in your thoughts. Remembrances may be made in the form desired by friends.
