Mark L Podolsky

We mourn the loss of a bright, young soul, Mark Leonard Podolsky who passed away on June 1, 2024. Born in Sarasota, Florida on February 18, 2002, to Kathy and Ivan Podolsky, Mark was a true native of Sarasota/Bradenton Florida that he loved and called home.

Mark’s journey, though brief, exhibited an unwavering spirit of kindness and a passion for life. He attended Saint Leo’s College and Everglade University where he was a rising senior, expected to graduate in 2025. He easily balanced school and a part-time job at SRQ Airport with WFS and Piedmont. His academic work ethic and inquisitive nature made him a favorite among his professors and peers.

From an early age, Mark showed a deep love for literature and was a ravenous reader. He was a very accomplished musician and played the cello in the Sarasota Youth Orchestra. His love for his dog Max and a passion for cars, planes, and motorcycles were unwavering.

Mark’s hobbies reflected his vibrant personality and zest for life. He also had a passion for photography, capturing life's moments with a unique and artistic eye. His love for aeronautics was evident since childhood and his future plan was to become a pilot. Mark’s adventurous spirit shone through in his love for kayaking, biking, and exploring the great outdoors. Mark’s passion for nature and sea life resulted in his volunteer work at Mote Marine.

Known for his kind heart, quick wit, and infectious smile, Mark was a beacon of light in the lives of those he touched no matter what their age. His compassion and determination to make the lives of others better often compelled him to volunteer at food banks, assist with establishing housing for those in need, and assist with storm preparations. Mark and his family hosted foreign exchange students from Spain and China for several years, and he also participated in travel abroad and was fascinated to learn about other cultures.

Mark is survived by his extremely proud and loving parents, Kathy and Ivan Podolsky, who will miss him dearly. He also leaves behind his Aunt Amy Podolsky and Uncle Jay Podolsky; Aunt Jolene Cummins (Kaylee, Julia, and Austin Joe); and his great Aunts Jackie Bofo, and Margaret (Peg) Nadler as well as a host of cousins, and cherished friends including David, Michael, Keiyi, Jose, Maguire, and Maxwell. He was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Joseph, and Dolores (Pat) Cummins, and his maternal Uncle, Joe “Joey” Cummins; his great Uncle Ralph Nadler; and his paternal grandparents, Sam (Mamie) and Sylvia (Leonard Hillison) Podolsky.

A service to celebrate Mark’s life will be held at Saint Martha’s church, located at 200 N. Orange Ave., Sarasota, FL. Following the service, will be a celebration of life. Date to be determined.

Mark’s capacity to love, show compassion, selflessness, and ability to show genuine kindness to others exemplifies all that is right and good with “today’s youths.” His legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. His life, though short, was a testament to the impact one individual can have on their family, friends, and community. Rest in peace, dearest Mark. Your memory will forever be a source of inspiration and joy to all who know you.
