Joy Perkins

1931 - 2021

Joy J. Perkins of Sarasota, Florida passed away on Saturday, January 30, 2021, at the age of 89. After enduring several months of declining health, Joy died peacefully at the Tidewell Hospice House in Sarasota, Florida with her daughter at her side.

Joy was born in Dayton, Ohio to Clarence Le Roy and Bertha Marie (Braner) Baker. She was a graduate of Kaiser High School. Joy met her husband, Paul E. Perkins, at a dance in Dayton and they married on October 21, 1950.

From an early age, Joy was active in retail sales, but she discovered real estate and developed a true knack and skill in this field. Joy became a Real Estate Agent and ultimately a Broker, active in both residential and commercial properties in Ohio, Delaware, South Carolina, and Florida. Joy truly lived life to the fullest through various interests. Early on, Joy participated in dancing activities and moved into swimming; being in a pool nearly the remainder of her active adult life. She was also involved in a women’s club, a neighborhood newcomers welcoming club and various local and national charitable events. She was an avid cook of many different cuisines, even graduating to writing cookbooks and providing recipes to the members of her numerous clubs for inclusion in charity cookbooks. Because her grandchildren were always asking her to tell them “Old Timey Stories” she wrote a book of stories which happened throughout her lifetime and presented it to her children. Joy loved to do different arts and craft projects and would generously provide them to friends and loved ones. She would additionally provide her arts to the charity events in which she participated. Joy attended the Church of the Palms in Sarasota.

Joy was preceded in death by her husband, Paul E. Perkins, her parents and by her brother Clarence Edward Baker. She is survived by her children Blair Scott Perkins and Paula Paige Manuel, daughter-in-law Suki, and son-in-law Chip; one sister Essie Mae Panak; two grandchildren, Samantha Jeanette Arita and Jason Reed Manuel; and four great-grandchildren, Mariann Arita, Madison Arita, Mason Arita and Carter Reed Manuel.

No funeral services will be held at this time as it was Joy’s wish to keep her family and friends safe and healthy and not have them gather.

The family is requesting no flowers or gifts, please keep them in your thoughts.

Remembrances may be made in the form desired by friends.
