John attended North Central High school in Indianapolis, IN, and graduated in the class of 1968. He then furthered his education by attending college at Indiana State University in Terre Haute, IN, where he played football as a linebacker for the Indiana State Sycamores and graduated in the class of 1972.
John Walter was a kind, decent man who never asked for accolade or demanded attention, yet everyone who knew him held him in the greatest esteem and cherished his friendship. He was kind, good and honorable because it never occurred to him to be anything else. John never hesitated to share his gentle nature, kind words and great sense of humor equally with friends and strangers. Without question he loved his life, loved his wife Lorry, loved his family, loved his friends and a good meal.
Most people know John built beautiful homes; he had a contractor’s license like many others, but something transformative happened when he went to work. A set of blueprints, concrete, and lumber became extraordinary, John instilled life and the love of his craft into those simple materials. John knew intrinsically that building was so much more than pushing two pieces of lumber together; it is about pride, integrity, and a love of the craft.
A warm and generous soul whose love of family, friends, and life is apparent in every breath he took with his sparkling blue eyes and that handsome smile. John had no idea of the gifts and joy he gave this world and the people who shared in his life; he was so humble he would thank all of us for his wonderful life when it is us who should be thanking him for being part of all of ours.
John is survived by his loving wife, Lorry Eible; his sister Elizabeth Walter Alberding of Hercules, CA; nephew Christopher Walter Alberding (Allison Ehlert) of Richmond, CA; great nieces, Avery and Rory Alberding of Richmond, CA; and his cousin Pamela Grewe of Evansville, IN. John had two stepchildren and four grandchildren: Edward Eible, his wife Rachael, their daughters Anne Marie & Sophia and Bryan Eible, his wife Kate, their children Kaya and Carlo. He is preceded in death by his parents F. Dale Walter and Mildred Grewe Walter.
