John Dennis McVey

John went to Riverview High School, then served in the U.S. Army National Guard for eight years. A skilled crane operator by trade, he was the owner/operator of John McVey Construction. John & Karen moved to Hayesville, North Carolina in 1998. There he was employed with Clay County Transportation. He retired from there in 2017 and moved back to Florida in 2018 where he resided with his son & daughter in law.

Besides his parents, John was also preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Karen; two brothers, Vic McVey and Phil McVey and sister, Sue Smoak.

John is survived by his son, Corey (Michelle) McVey; three grandsons, Bailen McVey, Blaine McVey and Tyler Parkinson, granddaughter, Shylah Parkinson; two brothers, Danny (Kathy) McVey, Chris (Karen) McVey and sister, Jackie Moon.

A graveside service will be held Monday, May 15, 2023 at 11:00 AM in the Wallace Section in Hopewell Memorial Park, 6730 Bee Ridge Rd, Sarasota, FL 34241.

Memorial contributions may be made to Sarasota County Sheriff's Office Animal Services, 8451 Bee Ridge Rd. Sarasota, FL 34241 since this is where John's puppy, Huckleberry was adopted from.
