On Monday November 15, 2021, John Laurence Hogan, loving husband and father to two children, passed away at the age of 83 in Sarasota, Florida. John was born on August 30, 1938 in Brooklyn, New York, spending his childhood in Ardmore, Pennsylvania before joining the Navy. Upon leaving the Navy, he moved to back to New York where he began his long and distinguished career in banking. John had a long tenure in finance working for Chemical Bank in New York, and subsequently for Tasco, Southeast Bank, First Union, Wachovia, and Wells Fargo Financial Institutions in Florida. His position prior to retirement in 2018 was as a Senior Vice President, Private Banking in Sarasota Florida. John held multiple college degrees including a financial certification from University of Virginia and an MBA from University of South Florida.
John was an active member in his community, participating in various philanthropic activities from Paint Your Heart Out Tampa, Charity Golf Tournaments and most recently as part of the YMCA Foundation of Sarasota and Suncoast Technical College Professional Culinary Arts & Hospitality Program Advisory Board. John was hobbyist chef; cooking and sharing food with others brought him joy. He also loved cruises and traveling around the world with his wife. He spent his retirement enjoying wines (fine and otherwise), good food, poker games and golf weekends with friends and travels to see family.
His presence will be greatly missed.
John was preceded in death by his parents (William and Lillian), his sisters (Virginia and Mary Lois) and his brother (William). John is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Patricia (Boyd); his children (Jonathan and Valerie); son-in-law (Ryan); grandchildren (Clark and Dorothy); and several nieces and nephews.
A visitation and viewing will held on Monday, November 22, 2021 from 2-4pm at Robert Toale and Sons Funeral Home-Wiegand Chapel at 7454 South Tamiami Trail, Sarasota, Florida 34231. In lieu of flowers, donations may be in his name to the American Heart Association or the Alzheimers Association.
