Janet and Tom, her loving husband of 57 years, moved to Sarasota in 1990. Janet loved to travel with Tom, was a published author of three books, avid reader, and team tennis player and captain. Janet graduated Summa Cum Laude from Montclair State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Communications. She taught second grade early in her career, and later showcased her entrepreneurial spirit by creating and running a successful publication with her husband, Tom, and daughter, Jackie. Janet lived a full life, overflowing with love and joy, and was always kind to those around her. She loved fiercely and deeply and we take comfort in knowing that Janet is now at peace surrounded by light and those who have passed before her.
She is survived by her loving husband, Thomas McLaughlin; children Kim McLaughlin McDermott (Christopher), Scott McLaughlin (Margaret), Jackie McLaughlin Lester (Eric); grandchildren Ryan and Lauren McDermott, Jessica and Samantha Thompson, and Sarah and Liam McLaughlin; brother Thomas (Susan); and many cherished nieces, nephews, sisters and brothers-in-law, and scores of friends.
She is preceded in death by her beloved parents, Anna and Francis; and sister, Patricia.
A mass for Janet will be held Saturday, May 28, 2022 at 10am at Incarnation Catholic Church, 2901 Bee Ridge Road, Sarasota, FL 34239. A gathering will follow at 11am at Robert Toale and Sons Funeral Home, 170 Honore Avenue, Sarasota, FL 34232. Followed by an Inurnment at the Family Estate Bench at Palms Memorial Park, 170 Honore Avenue at 11:30am. Celebration of Life and reception luncheon in Janet’s honor will follow from 12pm-2pm at Robert Toale and Sons St. Armand’s Room, Sarasota, FL 34232.
