Hugh Harold Bryce, 98, of Sarasota, Florida passed away on October , 9, 2024. Harry was born on February 27th, 1926 to Mary Grant (mother) and Linden Bryce (father) in Blackheath, Westmoreland, Jamaica, W.I. He had 2 sisters, Hortence and Vivian, (both deceased) and a brother, Uriah (also deceased). He was schooled in Jamaica.
HE ACCEPTED JESUS CHRIST AS SAVIOR AT AN EARLY AGE OF 17 1/2 YEARS
He left school, volunteered for the Royal Air Force, and served for approximately 4 years. At the end of his service there, he was trained by the Tate and Lyle Company as a Sugar Boiler and returned to Jamaica to work for the West Indies Sugar Company (owned by Tate and Lyle at the time) as a Sugar Recoverer, and in agriculture as a Time Keeper /Book Keeper .
During this period he met Gloria Innis and after a courtship of approximately one year, they were joined in Holy Matrimony in April 1950. from this union came 5 sons, Harold-Jr., Courtney, Roderick, Garth (deceased), Peter and daughter, Pamela. After 32 1/2 years they were divorced on November 10th, 1983
He met Grace in 1985 and was married in 1988. Grace died January 5th,2010
During Harry’s lifetime, he was always a believer and follower of Jesus Christ. He was committed to his faith, always strive to give of his best in Christ service.
He grew up a Baptist, served as secretary in the George’s Plain Baptist Church for many years and was involved in many other activities of the church.He was Leading Deacon in the Redeemer Lutheran Church Westbury, New York, where he labored and served for 14 years. He was also active in First Congregational UCC, Sarasota.
He volunteered at Resurrection House , Sarasota for 14 years, where he found joy in serving the homeless and sharing the love of Jesus Christ and praying with and for them.
He testified that both of his marriages were for reasons only God knows.
He always said, he had a good life. If you put the good of his life in one side of the scale and the bad on the other, the good far outweighs the bad, and it was all because of the the mercies and grace of a loving God.
He is survived by 5 Children, 18 Grandchildren, many great grandchildren, many Nieces and nephews, and loving friends
A visitation for Hugh will be held Friday, October 25, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Robert Toale and Sons Funeral Home at Palms Memorial Park, 170 Honore Ave, Sarasota, FL 34232. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 am. Burial will be immediately after in Palms Memorial Park.
