We sadly share the passing of Harry Maurice Knarr, Jr., 98, born September 18, 1924, in St. Petersburg, Florida. He attended St Petersburgh High School and joined the Coast Guard in 1942. He served in World War II, particularly in the Pacific Islands. He married his wife of nearly 75 years, Mary Insley Knarr, in 1947. The couple had 4 children, Jean Luker, Joyce Bishop, Susan Adams, and Harry Maurice Knarr, III (deceased 2013), 7 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren.
In 1958, Harry moved his family to Sarasota to open and manage the Post Office Vehicle Service and became the Fleet Manager there until 1983. He was also dedicated to Census and Elections poll work from 2003-2014. He loved his church, First United Methodist, Pineapple Avenue, and taught adult Sunday School for over 35 years. Habitat for Humanity and Smile.Org were also 2 of his passions.
Harry was known for his love of God and family, and his friendly outreach and compassion. Per his request there will be no service.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.palmsrobartsfuneralhome.com for the Knarr family.
