
Gene was a World War II veteran serving in the Battle of Normandy. He was a member of St. John United Church of Christ in Bellevue, KY and Congregational United Church of Christ, Bradenton, FL., Newport Elks Lodge, Moose Lodge, and The Cincinnati Musicians Union.
Gene was a retired accountant and a professional musician who played his last gig 3 days before his death. He played saxophone and clarinet with the orchestras of Glenn Miller, Will Hauser, Black Tie, Charlie Kehrer, Jimmy James, Buddy Rich and others. Upon moving to Florida in 1986, Gene formed a number of bands with local musicians in addition to playing with the Mummers String Bands.
Gene was preceded in death by his wife Joyce, and sister Norma Berringer. Survivors include sons, Gary (Linda) Griffith, Mike (Maureen) Griffith, Judy Griffith White (Ken), Karen Griffith Schulte, 8 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, March 3rd from 10am – 12pm at St. John United Church of Christ located at 540 Fairfield Avenue, Bellevue, KY, with a memorial service beginning at 11:30 am.
