Eugene “Gene/Geno” Leo Duggan, Jr, 77 of Sarasota, FL passed away on April 19, 2024 after a brief illness at Tampa General Hospital. Gene was surrounded by the comfort of his family when he peacefully passed.
Gene was born in Somerville, MA to the late Eugene Leo Duggan, Sr & Rita (Southwell) Duggan on May 23, 1946. He attended Somerville High School where he met the love of his life of 60 years Carol (Branco) Duggan. Gene and Carol celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary February 3, 2024. Gene had dedicated his service to the US Navy directly out of high school. He then went on to working his way up the ranks in the phone company as an operations manager for what is now Verizon. He officially retired in 1996 but returned shortly thereafter for some consulting work. He also worked with the Massachusetts Commission for the Blind. Geno found his passion on the golf course. Both him & Carol retired to Florida in 2016. They became members of the Palm Aire Country Club where they developed lifelong friendships. They also were active within their home community of Woodland Green where they again had neighbors that became family. Gene always had a glowing smile on his face. He made everyone feel loved & welcomed.
Gene is survived by his four children. Kelly Salloux & her husband Bruce of Hudson, MA, Sean Duggan & his wife Denise of Weymouth, MA, Kathleen (Kathy) Tierney of Lowell, MA, & Kimberly (Kim) Cameron of Lowell, MA. He is also survived by his brother Bernard (Bernie) Duggan of Sarasota, FL & sister Nancy Walsh of Englewood, FL. Gene was an extremely proud Papa and has 8 grandchildren. Sean Monahan & his fiancé Katherine Hall, Kyle Monahan, Ryan, Kaitlyn, Mackenzie & John Tierney, Isabella Duggan & Connor Cameron. Gene also is the uncle to 9 nieces & nephews. Gene is predeceased in death by his 2 sisters Rita Walsh & Elizabeth (Betty) Manning,
A funeral service to take place in his hometown of Billerica, MA in June followed by a private burial. There will be a celebration of life at the Palm Aire Country Club in Sarasota, FL this fall.
