My family and I are sad to announce that my mother Doris Irene Woeltjen, age 100, passed from this life on April 19, 2024 at her home. Born in 1923, in Chicago, to Agda and Otto Blomberg – originally from Sweden – she is survived by four children (and their spouses), Patrice; Jim (Dennie); Bill (Cheryl); and Candice (Ron). Doris is also survived by five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Doris and her late husband Dr. Albert Woeltjen were married for 55 years; they enjoyed traveling together across the US and around the world. Albert’s career led them to live in Long Beach CA, Dixon IL, Cedar Grove NJ, Westport CT, Miami FL and New York, NY.
Retirement brought them to the Bradenton/Sarasota area. For many years Doris was active in the community, volunteering at SPARCC and enjoying local theatre and the opera. In her late 80’s, with Bill and Cheryl, she even managed a trip to Scandinavia and visited cousins there.
In her later years, Doris still enjoyed seeing friends and going out to eat at downtown restaurants, and was always particularly fond of her view of beautiful Sarasota Bay.
