Anthony John Luksas

Anthony John Luksas passed away at the age of 86 in North Port, Florida on Dec 3, 2024. He entered life’s journey on April 17, 1938 in Lithuania, and held steadfastly to his Catholic faith throughout his life, finding solace and inspiration in his beliefs. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, where he fostered relationships and devoted himself to community service. Anthony led an accomplished and fulfilling life, serving as a 1st Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Chemical Corps, a role in which he demonstrated exceptional leadership and patriotism. His academic endeavors were equally impressive, earning him a PhD in Cellular Microbiology—a testament to his relentless pursuit of knowledge and a reflection of his keen intellect. His professional legacy is enshrined in the food industry, where he retired as the head of Research and Quality Control for Tootsie Roll. Over the course of his distinguished career, Anthony's innovative mind was responsible for over 50 patents, marking him as a pioneer in his field. After retirement, he published two books, including “Cancer Cure via DNA,” which introduced a novel approach to a true cancer cure. Beyond his professional accolades, Tony treasured every moment with his beloved wife, Gerrie, who predeceased him. He was a proud father to Kat and Pete, loving father-in-law to Rich Collins and Mary Luksas, and grandfather to Zach, Abaigeal, John, Ben, and Reef, whom he adored endlessly. Anthony’s tenacity, intelligence, and perseverance defined his character and inspired all who knew him. Funeral services will be conducted at St. Maximilian Kolbe Church, where family and friends will gather to commemorate his life and legacy. In reflecting on his remarkable journey, the words of Calvin Coolidge resonate in his honor: “Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent.” Indeed, Anthony personified these ideals, illuminating the lives of those who were blessed to know him.

The funeral mass for Anthony will be held Monday, December 16, 2024 at 10:00 AM at St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Church, 1441 Spear St, Port Charlotte, FL 33948. Following the funeral mass will be a committal service with military honors from 1:30 PM to 2:00 PM at Sarasota National Cemetery, 9810 State Rd 72, Sarasota, FL 34241.
