Alexis Bridget Brotherton

Alexis was born to Teri & Larry Brotherton Jr on April 23, 2003. She graduated from Riverview High School; was in the Honors Society; was very involved in JROTC and many aspects of the 4-H Program.

Alexis was attending Virginia Polytechnic Institute, in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, and was on track to graduate – Pre-Vet - in 2025 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal & Poultry Sciences. In addition to studying abroad in New Zealand and Australia, she was in The Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets Senior Military College and, through it all, carried a 3.5 GPA.

Alexis was the Phi Sigma National Biological Honor Society President in 2023; was on the Virginia Tech Clay Target Team; and ranked Little International at the Virginia Tech Livestock Show in 2022 & 2023. She served as Fire Team Leader in the Army Reserve Officer Training Corps; was 4th Battalion Tradition Group Leader; November Company Service NCOIC; was Senior Banquet Committee Member; and was Army enlisted Sergeant E5 Officer.

Her list of achievements include (but are certainly not limited to) 4-H Leader of the Legacy for the Southwest District; National Society of Daughters of 1812 in JROTC; President of Volunteer Service Gold Award; 4-H Foundation Scholarship recipient; Army ROTC Scholarship recipient; and Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets Emerging Leadership Scholarship recipient.

Alexis was involved in many hobbies including the Clay Target Team at Virginia Tech; animals & agriculture; outdoor activities like camping, riding, & kayaking; and enjoying time with family & friends. Not only was she an avid participant in the Livestock aspect of 4-H, but she was also part of the 4-H Clogging Clovers. She was a camp counsellor; a mentor to kids 6-18; and worked with a local non-profit to organize an Agricultural Awareness day for local youth, introducing them to different aspects of Agriculture and the Dairy Beef projects. Alexis was said to be “a model 4-Her and an example of all things possible in 4-H”.

Alexis is preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Joseph Carl Bevilacqua, and paternal grandmother, Sherry K. Brotherton. She is survived by her grandparents, Larry William & Fay Brotherton, and Clora Bevilacqua; parents, Teri & Larry Brotherton Jr; brother, Kaden Joseph Brotherton; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends.

Alexis loved art – she was very artistic. She loved music, her Toyota Tacoma, and riding around – music blasting – with her brother, Kaden. Grandpa says she is strength & self-determination; fearless, observant, attentive; would work through anything to accomplish a task; a woman with a plan.

Alexis was always putting others before herself.

A Celebration Gathering for Alexis will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2024 3pm to 5pm at the Potter Building on Sarasota Fairgrounds, 2896 Ringling Blvd, Sarasota, with a celebration of life service beginning at 5pm. Her service will be livestreamed.
