The Lord carried Shirley home to be with him, and allowed her to pass away peacefully in her home in Semmes, Alabama. She is preceded in death by her mother, Margaret Roach; her sisters, Ann Miller and Gayle Sweat; and her brother, John Woody. She is survived by her dedicated husband, Edward Guy, of 30 years; her four (4) daughters, Carol (Jimmy) Mott, Phyllis Bowden, Donna (Turner) Ward, and Kelly (Mark) Johnson; her 13 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; her two (2) sisters, Pat (Bruce) Moseley and Billie Jo (John) Hatcher; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
She started working at the age of 12 and continued working and establishing many close relationships at multiple employers until retiring from Friendly Credit Union in 2001. She went back to work part-time at the US Coast Guard Base and helping other families by taking care of their children and fur-babies. She did this until she was unable to continue any longer in 2019.
She was an active member at Holy Name of Jesus until Ovarian Cancer changed her quality of life three (3) years ago. Shirley was loved by all who knew her. She will be immensely missed by all who had the privilege of loving her until her very last minute.
When you think of Shirley, you think of a woman that always put others before herself. A woman who showed so much love, compassion, and kindness to everyone she met; including all animals and strays she took in as her own. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the SPCA or Azalea City Cat Coalition in her honor.
A special thanks to Gentiva Hospice, for the care and compassion they have shown Shirley.
A visitation for Shirley will be held Monday, March 20, 2023, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Radney Funeral Home, Saraland, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM. Interment will be held in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, Saraland, Alabama. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.radneyfuneralhome-saraland.com for the Guy family.
