Joan Elizabeth Lee Byrd, 92, went to sleep and woke up in Jesus presence on Saturday, September 23, 2023. She was met in heaven by her husband, James Edward Byrd, Sr., and her son, Larry Stephen Byrd, and great-granddaughter, Karsyn Delaney Byrd. She was a resident of Chunchula, Alabama for 77 years, with the last 6 years a resident at Crowne Health Care of Citronelle, Alabama.
Joan was born to Frank and Emma Bailey Lee on October 6, 1930. She was predeceased by her parents as well as her sisters, Helen Lambert, Lenda Burke, Glenda Mullins, and brothers, Robert “Bobby” Lee, and Donald Vincent Lee.
She is survived by her children, James Edward Byrd, Jr., Shelia D. Boothe, Sharon Y. Nelson, Paul F. Byrd, Sr., John Earl (Kim) Byrd, and daughter-in-law, Gwen Byrd, 13 grandchildren, 45 great-grands and 31 great, great-grands, her sister, Dorothy Rose (Fred) Carpenter, many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Saturday, September 30, 2023, from 5-8 p.m. at Radney Funeral Home in Saraland, Alabama. Funeral services will be Sunday, October 1, 2023, at 2 p.m. from the funeral home chapel. The family will receive friends at the funeral home beginning at 1 p.m. prior to services on Sunday. Interment will be at Georgetown Methodist Cemetery in Chunchula, Alabama.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Brian K. Boothe, Patrick Nelson, Donald L. Boothe, Jr., James “Eddie” Byrd, Frank Byrd, Joshua Byrd and Tyler Byrd.
