Gloria Ann Davis

Gloria Ann Davis Davis – age 80, of Eight Mile, AL, died Tuesday, July 12, 2011 at home. Born June 20, 1931 in Whistler, AL and the first daughter of James Dewey Davis and Mattie Seals Davis. She was reared in Whistler, AL and attended Whistler Elementary School. Graduated from the seventh grade at Whistler School, and attended Vigor High School the first year that Vigor became a High School. From there, she attended and graduated from Murphy High School with the class of 1948. After graduation, she began working as a billing clerk at Van Antwerp Aldridge Drug Store in Mobile. She met L.J. Davis in the summer of 1949, and they were married on December 23, 1949 in Bethany Baptist Church in Whistler, AL. After marriage, she lived in Prichard, AL for 15 years, moving to Satsuma, AL in 1962. They resided in Satsuma until the fall of 1977. At that time she and L.J. moved to College Woods in Eight Mile, AL. Besides being a wife and mother, Gloria worked as a tax preparer for H&R Block, as a nurse at USA Medical Center, as a Real Estate Agent/Broker, and as a Property Manager for A&JL Meaher/Chippewa Lakes, L.L.C. Gloria loved her family, and her greatest joy was being with them. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, L.J. Davis in 2005; her father in 1967; her mother in 1990; her brothers, Eugene Aubrey Davis in 1930 and James Milton Davis in 1990; her sister, Jenney Carolyn Davis Scarbrough Woodruff in 2004; and her sister, Dorothy Deloris Davis Doan in 2008. She is survived by her daughter, Rita Kay Hicks, of Eight Mile, AL, whom she loved and raised as her own from the age of three weeks. She is also survived by her brother, Thomas Dewey Davis (Sharon) of Mobile, AL; four sisters, Mary Nell Davis Sanders (Wendell) of Wilmer, AL, Julie Rebecca Davis McCarthy Welborn (Tony) of Daphne, AL and Deborah Jeanne Davis Jones (Wayne) of Bay Minette, AL; her beloved nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews, cousins, and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 16, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. from the chapel of Radney Funeral Home in Saraland. The family will receive friends at the funeral home beginning at 12:00 noon prior to services. Interment will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
