Diane was a wonderful wife, mother, sister, teacher, and friend. She was born in Waynesboro, MS in 1946 to James Horace Odom Jr. and Mary Frances Lee Odom. She was the oldest of four children who loved playing the piano and dreamed of one day becoming a teacher. After graduating from Millry High School, she studied Early Education at the University of Mobile. Diane had a great love for teaching both in the classroom and also in Church. She loved teaching kids about Jesus and His great love for them.
Diane met her beloved James on a blind date and it was love at first sight! They were married December 12, 1964 in Millry, AL and spent 56 wonderful years together. They served together in the church and loved their community.
Diane is preceded in death by her husband, James Robert McLain Sr., her daughter, Rhonda Renee Hudson, her parents, James Horace Odom Jr. & Mary Frances Lee Odom, her grandparents and infant grandchild, Weatherly Grace McLain.
Diane is survived by her children, JR (Dusti) McLain of Portland, OR and Marriane McLain of Saraland, AL; Her siblings Mary Jo (Charles) Britton of Waynesboro, MS, Harold (Margaret) Odom of Chatom, AL, and Dennis (Janet) Odom of Saraland, AL. Five grandchildren who were the light of her life: Sarah (Will) Koppenhaver, Zoe McLain, Tyler Hudson, Ian McLain, & Lia McLain. And seven great grandchildren.
Diane was passionate about teaching and absolutely loved her students and being in the classroom. She loved playing the piano and singing in Church with her family. She was a Pastor’s wife and enjoyed teaching the Bible to children and leading choir.
Visitation will be December 19, 2024 at 9:00am at Redemption Church in Saraland, Alabama followed by the Funeral Service beginning at 10am. Internment will be at The Alabama State Veterans Cemetery in Spanish Fort, Alabama. Pallbearers are Tim Mills, Eric Reynolds, Derek Jordan, Chad Odom, Tommy Whitten & Johnny Whitten.
