Irene Alamillo

Irene Alamillo was born on May 29, 1942 in Cueva Grande-Valparaiso, Zacatecas, Mexico. Her mother Amelia Betancourt and father Inez Alamillo were blessed to have 8 children. Irene was a resident of Fillmore for most of her life. She was married for 51 years to her beloved husband, Agustin Oliveros Alamillo, where they both cherished their 8 children. She was known for her famous cooking; a signature dish was her homemade chicken mole, famous flour tortillas, and those delicious tamales that we all enjoyed. Her hobbies consisted of collecting souvenirs and cross-stitch embroidery. Irene loved listening to music of all types but mostly her Gruperas y Rancheras. She enjoyed taking family vacations with her children to Las Vegas, San Felipe, and Mexico. She was a hard worker and devoted mother. Her greatest pleasure was the moments she spent with her children and their families. Irene had a huge heart and helped many people. She had many friends in Rancho Sespe who accompanied her to many outings. She conquered many adventures and activities on her own. Her pride and joy was her children and grandchildren’s accomplishments.

She is preceded in death by her father Inez Alamillo and mother Amelia Betancourt; her beloved husband Agustin Oliveros Alamillo; her siblings Esperanza, Abel, Ernest, and Chilo.

Irene is survived by her loving children Juana Alamillo, Rodrigo Alamillo (Esperanza), Maria Rodriguez (Freddy), Sergio Alamillo (Esther), Fidencio Alamillo (Susana), Eva Alamillo (Armando), Angelica Garibay (Joel), Sonia Molina (Henry); 23 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and brothers Florentino, Pedro, and Enrique Alamillo.

Irene will live in our memories and hearts forever, leaving behind her family recipes that will be carried on through generations. We will always remember her legendary childhood stories, famous riddles, and funny jokes. Irene was a pleasure to be around as she was loving and caring. Her wisdom and advice will live forever in those whose heart she touched. The odds were against her but her fighting spirit and strong heart proved everyone wrong. She fought a courageous battle and with that, we will cherish her legacy of what she was to many but most importantly to us, a strong woman.
