Richard and I were friends from Grade School (3rd grade I think) and we lived the 1960s together.
  Every year I would get Birthday and Christmas Cards, always signed Love Richard with the years and months of Sobriety listed.
   He was on my Monday phone call list along with my Mom

We miss Richard so much here at Atria...his kindness, his wit, his card playing AND his ponytail!  We thank God for lending him to us for a few years.  Condolences to all his loving family.

So grateful for Richard’s listening ear, kindness, and encouragement as 23 years ago Chris and I navigated the decision to marry and blend a family of 7 children aged 8yrs to 18yrs. He was there for us then and kept tabs on our adventures. Richard’s friendship will remain a treasure. Our thoughts and prayers will be with the family as you grieve your loss.

I want to express my gratitude to all of you for sharing your thoughts and love for my brother-in-law, Uncle Dick. I was lucky enough to be in Uncle Dick’s family. I fell in love and married the most beautiful girl in Santa Clara Valley, and that was Uncle Dick’s sister, Dee. Everyone called him Uncle Dick. I even called him that. I cast him in two TV commercials and in a short film titled “Chained.” they all had a cowboy theme and he made a great-looking cowboy. I miss him. I love him. He will always be in my thoughts. Richard was my Best Man on April 25, 1993. The best Best Man one could have. He is letting me know it is almost time.

Richard Maloney and I became friends in 1966 during our high school days. We met through my twin brother Kit. Richard was affectionately known as “Bear” in those days and was a part of our family. My mother treated him like he was one of her own kids and his mother and mine also knew each other and together they tracked him through many of our adventures in those days. 
We had so many memorable times throughout the 60’s and 70’s. There were wonderful adventures into the “Haight-Ashbury” scene in San Francisco, music festivals and concerts, filming TV commercials for the “Cookbook Restaurant” with Pat Donahue where we dressed up like cowboys and filmed on a ranch in Alviso and ate omelets until we were stuffed. We had so many life changing experiences throughout the years that helped us develop into who we became as adults. 
We all parted ways as we became adults and got into our own lives and I did not see him again until about 1989 when we met each other again doing community service. Richard, my wife Nancy, and I did a lot of community service together right up until he moved to Carmicheal several years after he retired from working at Agnew State Hospital with more than 25 years of service there. We have stayed in touch as much as we could. 
Richard was always there for his friends. He came and prayed with me at the hospital before I had what turned out to be very serious surgery that nearly cost me my life. When he had surgery on his back in San Francisco Nancy and I went there to visit him. He was so surprised to see us and said he thought we were “Angels.” 
Richard will be remembered by us as a kind and loving man who cared about the community and for helping others through his gifts and personal, caring, loving actions. I will miss my friend of over 57 years until we meet again in the glory of our creator to resume our love and friendship through eternity.

One of my favorite memories with Uncle Dick. We had an impromptu. trip to San Jose to get an ice cream fix at Cream.

Richard was a touchstone to me.  He helped me keep it simple many times during our friendship of 15 years. I will miss him not being in this mortal world; however, I have no doubts we will always share serenity and fellowship through gods infinite wisdom.

My dear Richard, I am missing you and will miss playing”Kings in the corner “ with you. I think of you daily. Gail and speak of you often and how much we miss you . Remembering   I said you were the “King of kings in the corner.” And you told Suzanne “and Loulou’s the Queen.” I believe you are having some good games playing with other friends who are there with you. Until we meet again , God love you❤️

I TOLD RICHARD I WQAS MOVING AND HE SAID YOU CANT LEAVE BUT I HAD TO LEAVE. WE HAD PLAYED CRDS TOGETHER THE 4 YEARS I HAD BEEN AT ATRIA. I NAGGED HIM TO GO TO THE DOCTOR AND HE WAS  NEVER WANTED TO BUT HE FINALLY WENT. HE WAS SO KIND AND LOVING AND HAD GOOD COMMON SENSE. hE IS GOINGTO BE MISSED SO MUCH ESPECIALLY BY LOULOU. SHE PALYED WITH US TOO.
