Francisco was born in Harlingen Texas on December 3rd 1932. He has 8 children, 4 boys and 4 girls, 16 grandchildren, and 19 great grandchildren. He loved building bicycles and gardening. He loved telling jokes and his laugh was so contagious that he had everyone laughing before he could get to the punchline. We would be laughing so hard that no one could understand what the punchline was. I have so many fond memories of Grandpa sitting at the head of the table and always sneaking some type of sweet treat telling a story or one of his famous jokes. Thanksgiving was always my favorite, Grandpa would be in his favorite cowboy boots, not a hair out of place and wearing his favorite aftershave. If the Cowboys were playing we all knew we had to be quiet so Grandpa could hear the tv from where he was sitting. He always had a way of bringing the family together. Grandpa gave me my very first fruit tree when I bought my first house. That avocado tree will always be a reminder that he’s watching over me. Grandpa, you will be missed.
" As devastated as I am to be here, I keep trying to remind myself that we should also be celebrating Grandpa’s life at the same time. Francisco Martinez was an amazing Husband, Father, Brother and Grandfather to us all. He was a family man, but he was more than that, he was considerate, caring and kind to anyone he spoke with.
Growing up I had some of my favorite memories with him and Grandma. He always had a way of making me feel special and loved whenever I came to the house. He was always there in his chair or the couch wearing the biggest smile. He was the kindest man and grandfather anyone could ask for. My favorite thing about him was his laugh. He had a great sense of humor. He had the kind of laugh that made us join him while he tried to finish his sentence. Now I’ll always think of him when I hear about the Dallas Cowboys, eat sweet bread or have a late night cup of coffee.
One thing that was always clear was the love and appreciation Grandpa had for everyone in his family. He was so grateful for everyone that took care of him, especially these past few months. He was so giving and selfless to anyone he loved. We are very grateful he lived a very long and happy life making it to his 90th birthday.
We can all take comfort in the fact that he is at peace now. He is now reunited with loved ones and even his old friend, Foxy. Although our hearts are broken, we could still carry his loving memory and spirit with us. I loved him very much and I will never forget him.
Love,
Marissa Guillen "
