Resident of Los Gatos
Eldora Rewak was born on February 9, 1910, in Syracuse, NY, one of 11 siblings. She married William Rewak in 1931, and in 1936 they moved to Rochester, NY, where her husband eventually became President of Rochester Tool & Die Co. They moved to San Jose, CA, in 1948 and made the Santa Clara Valley their home for the rest of their lives. Eldora was active in many charities: she was a Board member of the Catala Club of Santa Clara University, a member of the Jesuit Mother Association, the Bellarmine Mothers Guild and St. Leo’s Sodality, and past President of the John Vianney Women’s Guild. For several years she worked as a volunteer, then for 10 years as an employee, at the Jesuit Retreat House in Los Altos before she retired at 75. She and her husband set up a scholarship fund for deserving students at Santa Clara University. Kind and generous, Eldora helped many individuals without any fanfare.
Eldora died peacefully on Thursday, October 13, at the Terraces in Los Gatos, and is survived by four children: Fr. William Rewak, SJ, of Santa Clara University, Dana Cole of St. Louis, Patricia Lima of San Jose, and Robert Rewak of Redwood City. Her youngest son, Michael, predeceased her in 2010. She leaves 8 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be at 6:00 pm on Tuesday, October 18, at the Mission Church of Santa Clara University, with a Rosary at 7:00 pm followed by a funeral Mass. Reception immediately following Mass at Nobili Hall, Santa Clara University. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the William & Eldora Rewak Scholarship Fund at Santa Clara University.
