Charlie passed away peacefully at his home after a short battle with Leukemia. Preceded in death by his father Charles V. Long Sr., mother Helen E. Long, Mary Jean his wife of 61 years, sons Charles III and Allen N. He is survived by his daughter Elizabeth (Don) his grandchildren Chuck (Allison), Kevin (Shelly), Brian (Dawn Marie), Erik (Vanessa), Amy (Dave) and eleven great grandchildren Yvette, Kevin Jr., Ryan, Meghan, Cayla, Hunter , Hope, Hunter , Andrew, Haydrian and Piper. Charlie was born the oldest of seven brothers and sisters in Tiffin, Ohio. After graduating from high school he joined the Military on the 29 of January 1943 and made it his career until Dec 31, 1969 when he was medically discharged due to health issues before he could deploy to Vietnam where his son was. Charlie was to go through two coronary bypass operations, one in August of 1979 and then again May of 1980. After the second one he was given 6 months to live but like the eveready battery he kept going and going. Charlie gave of himself, asked nothing in return and was grateful for everyday he was given. He was a friend, mentor, loving father, father-in-law, grandfather, papa and great grandfather. He was always quick with a smile and was an instant friend to everyone he met. Even in his final days Charlie continued to inspire his family, friends and his doctors with his courage, independence and tenacity. He will be greatly missed by his family and all that came to know him. Visitation will be Friday October 21 from 3 p.m. - 8 p.m. and Rosary Service at 6 p.m. Lima Family Santa Clara Mortuary, 466 N. Winchester Blvd. Funeral Service will be held Saturday October 22 at 12:00 noon at St. Lawrence The Martyr Catholic Church, 1971 St. Lawrence Dr. Santa Clara, CA. Interment to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Los Altos, CA.
