She is survived by her Nephews, Joe and Tony Castillo; Nieces, Lourdes (Castillo) Velasquez, Yolanda (Castillo) Lopez; Brothers, Henry and Raymond Rivera. Preceding her in death was her Father, Filiberto Rivera; Mother, Francisca (Ybarra) Rivera; Sister, Soccoro (Rivera) Castillo; Brothers, Frank and Rueben Rivera.
Alice grew up in Tucson, AZ. In 1948, at sixteen, she moved to Los Angeles, CA with her mother. In 1957, Alice moved to San Jose where she lived with her sister Soccoro and her family until moving into Joe's house in 1996. She has always been a part of our family, never marrying or having children of her own. She was a second mom to us, grandmother to our children and someone we could always turn to.
As a young lady, Alice loved dancing at the Starlight on weekends with friends. She also enjoyed trying her luck on the slot machines in both Reno and Las Vegas over the years with Jenny. She enjoyed travel, especially her trip to Europe. Alice did try her luck at driving until it ended in a neighbor's front yard. Her one regret was not graduating high school. We know this because Joe caught her modeling Marissa's high school graduation cap in the dining room one afternoon.
Alice was Catholic and very devout. She prayed everyday, multiple times a day. She had a list of family and friends she prayed for every day. If she knew you were sick, she added your name to the list. There were a minimum of 5 candles lit each day praying for those on the list to get well.
Alice enjoyed caring for her family and showed it by making tacos, enchiladas and fried chicken with love for special occasions. Alice was Nana to Marissa and loved her Princessita very much.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.limafamilysantaclara.com for the Rivera family.
