Mavis Clark, 90, of Buena Park passed away gently (as was her nature) on April 5, 2017. Born in Bellflower, CA on July 7, 1926, she was one of 9 children born to Russell and Sarah Murray. She is survived by sisters Jean Butterfield, Louella Dunann, and Joan Murray, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She joins her husband Dale, her twin Marcia, her sisters Mae and Isabelle, and brothers Franklin and Danny, in eternal peace. She worked for Pacific Telephone & Telegraph, Prudential Insurance, Kimberly Clark, she appeared briefly in the Hollywood films Gone Fishing and The Fan and during the WWII she was an original Rosie the Riveter working at McDonnell Douglas. Working on skill contests was her hobby, and she won major prizes and trips. She was also a beauty contest winner. But her real role in life was to be selfless and giving. Always generous and helpful, she personified loving-kindness. ~Things you may not know about Mavis~ In the beginning Mavis was raised in a rural area conducive to playing outdoors and helping her father raise produce and animals for the family's consumption. She conquered the usual amount of illnesses and controlled others. Because of her optimism, attitude and excellent medical care she became a happy cancer survivor. She was a bright one! In grammar school she aided her teachers by overseeing and helping reading groups. Finished her education at Excelsior High School and Compton Junior College. After retiring she was a volunteer teaching English to Spanish children. Her domestic capabilities began when a youngster trying to a keep the family home neat and clean. This trait continued while an adult and added to the repertoire was her expertise in wallpapering and decorating. Down to the last detail which was her extensive ceramic cat collection...Mavis LOVED cats! She was so organized she was dubbed by her family as the 'Data-Base'. She kept files on anything of the slightest importance that extended to the family. If it wasn't in a file, it was handwritten in a note; everything was on record. Mavis was physically active and walked a lot. She lived upstairs and did many flights a day, sometimes simply for the exercise. She was independent and did her own housework, chores and sometimes those of others as well. She never quit driving. She drove herself as well as neighbors, friends and family members on necessary errands, although her car had never been on a freeway! She always made it a point to live no more than a mile or two from work; thus her cars lasted so long they became classics. Her spirit throughout her life was philanthropic but her personality was bigger than that. She had a razor sharp sense of humor and was always up for the next adventure, to know her was to love her. A graveside service will be held Tuesday 4-18-17 at 11:30 a.m. at Fairhaven Memorial Park located at 1701 Fairhaven Ave. in Santa Ana, CA 92705. We'll miss her.
