Dr. Enoc Venero Chambi

Enoc Chambi, MD, a plastic surgeon with a passion for reconstructive surgery and regenerative medicine, died on September 18, 2020 at the age of 69. Dr. Chambi, a life-long Christian of the Seventh-day Adventist faith was born in Juliaca, Peru on January 16, 1951. Dr. Chambi graduated with honors from the Autonomous University of Gualadajara as a medical doctor in 1972. He was trained by surgical luminaries in cardiac and plastic surgery in Canada, Brazil, and the United States. After excelling in medical school, he passed the American Boards and Dr. Chambi was granted a license to practice medicine and surgery in the United States. Dr. Chambi also held a license to practice surgery in Peru, Argentina, Brazil, and Mexico. In addition to practicing plastic surgery, Dr. Chambi led and participated in research relating to hypothermia, bariatric chamber effect, artificial valves, artificial hearts, hypoxia, endothelia stem cells, and adipose cell preservation. He shared his extensive medical experience as an assisting professor of thoraxic and cardiovascular surgery at the University of Gualadajara from 1980 – 1982; as a visiting professor in Russia, Peru, and Chile; and spoke at conferences and symposiums throughout the world.

Dr. Chambi had a passion for serving others and mission work. He participated in trips to Peru, Chile, Russia, and Ukraine to perform surgical procedures of the face, cleft palate, and retraction of keloid formations. He also performed work on burn victims. He never forgot his Peruvian roots and actively supported the Universidad Peruana Union, the University Church, and the Luciano Chambi School in Desuagaredo, Peru. He received an Honorary Doctorate Causa from the Universidad Peruana Union to recognize his passion for teaching and community services in the mission field.

Dr. Chambi enjoyed family gatherings, spending time with his grandchildren, the company of good friends, traveling, photography, painting, spending time in nature and around animals, Peruvian food, and the fine arts.

Dr. Chambi is survived by his wife, Galyna Chambi; daughter, Yanina Chambi; daughter, Claudia Reyes; two grandchildren, Mateo and Emily Toledo; father; Pedro Mateo Chambi; and four siblings, Israel Pedro Chambi, Elias Haroldo Chambi, Flora Elisa Chambi, and Ruth Felicidad Chambi-Hernandez.
