Freddie (birth name: Waltia) Lee Hudson was born in Sanford, FL, to Julius Hudson and Lester Lane, on November 5, 1936, and was later adopted by his aunt and uncle, Eva and Boise Ferguson of Midway Sanford, FL. Freddie graduated from Crooms High School in 1955, and later, after retiring from the U.S. Air Force, received a Bachelor’s Degree in Business from Rollins College in Orlando, FL.
He was married to the late, (2015) Rosa Lee James in Boston, MA, on September 25, 1955. Born to that union was Viveca Monet Hudson, Tameca Vilesha (Marlon) Alexander, and Glyniss Ann Hudson.
Freddie enlisted in the U.S. Air Force at the tender age of 17. After serving for 23 years as a Weapons Maintenance Superintendent and Ammunition Foreman, and reaching the grade of Master Staff Sergeant (E-7), he retired in 1976.
He worked as a Technician for The Xerox Corporation and as a Master Trainer for Martin Marietta Orlando Aerospace, and retired in 1995. In 1996, he was pulled from retirement to work for Lockheed Martin Aerospace during the Desert Storm War to teach the troops stationed in Germany how to maintain the Stealth Fighter Jet, and finally retiring for good in 1998.
Freddie was an active Deacon at New Zion Primitive Baptist Church in Sanford, FL for over 40 years; and he was a member of the North Central Florida Primitive Baptist Association. He was also a member of the Sanford Masonic Lodge 62nd and a member of the Elks Club for Celery City Lodge No. 542.
He enjoyed always helping others; had a passion for mechanics, music, and singing; and enjoyed playing the piano. He was always found to be selling watermelons in the summer; selling BBQ at the Elks Club; fishing on Lake Monroe; and chairing educational contests for student scholarships.
Freddie was an excellent provider to his family, and he and his wife were blessed with three grandchildren, Cassaundra (Randall) Kemp, Falon Hudson, and Kyra (Michael) Brown. He was a brave soldier, a strong man, and an independent person. He was courageous, generous, and fearless
Freddie was preceded in death by his only wife, Rosa Lee Hudson; his brothers, Peter Hudson, and Bill Hudson; and his sisters, Leola Crawford, and Hattie Mae Lawson.
His Visitation is on Friday, September 22, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
His Homegoing Celebration is on Saturday, September 23, 2023, at 11:00 a.m.
Both services will take place at: Baldwin Fairchild Funeral Home-Oakland, 5000 CR 46A, Sanford, FL 32771.
His interment will be at The Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL.
