Martha Bryan Hale, 82, of Atlanta passed away Saturday, September 10, 2011, following an extended illness. Martha was born in Gainesville, Georgia and attended Norcross High and Georgia State College for Women. Martha was a wonderful loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a gracious Southern lady that enjoyed family, friends, travel, and co-directing weddings at her church, St. James United Methodist. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 60 years, Jim Hale. Her family consists of three children, Susan Hale Lester, and her husband, Charles Lester, of Tallahassee, FL; Carol Hale Connelly and her husband, John Connelly, of Brentwood, TN; Michael Hale and his wife, Stacy King Hale, of Powder Springs, GA; and six grandchildren. Funeral services for Martha will be held on Thursday, September 15, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at St. James United Methodist Church with Jonathan Holston, Dianne McCann, and Bishop Bevel Jones officiating. Burial services will follow at Arlington Memorial Park, 201 Mt. Vernon Hwy, Sandy Springs, GA 30328. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. James United Methodist Church, 4400 Peachtree Dunwoody Rd., Atlanta, GA 30342. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Blood & Marrow Transplant Group of Georgia who treated and cared for her over the past year. Additionally, they would like to thank the staff of Vitas Innovative Hospice Care for their compassionate care and support.
