December 11, 1935 to November 26, 2021
Peggy had a full and joyful life. She was happily married to Jim Milton for 57 years before his passing in 2018. Tennis, bridge, travel, listening to audio books, supporting Special Olympics Georgia and watching HGTV were some of her many passions. Peg was a talented and competitive bridge player and played anytime she could get up a game! One of her favorite sayings was “If you don’t get the right cards dealt to you, you just can’t win!” Her sharp wit and sense of humor made her the social butterfly surrounded by friends wherever she went.
Originally from New Jersey, Peggy met Jim on a cruise to and from Europe after their college graduations and a year later they married. Peggy had many close friends and even when apart, she always enjoyed catching up on the phone with her friends and hearing about their families. Owning and showing an Arabian horse named Sarkeem was a favorite experience of hers.
She enjoyed spending time with family and friends at their place on Amelia Island as well as the community of Big Canoe where she lived for 22 years. Her favorite outdoor sport was tennis which she played a lot of at the beach and in the mountains. In 2018 she moved to the independent living facility, Huntcliff in Sandy Springs, where she made many fast friends and became immediately part of the various bridge groups.
Georgia, Peggy’s daughter, was a frequent visitor at Huntcliff and they enjoyed going out to lunches, shopping and calling her beloved granddaughter Molly. Peggy loved the holidays and was able to enjoy a final Thanksgiving dinner this year! Molly made 4 of Peggy’s famous buttermilk pies to honor her and to share with family members which touched her heart.
Peggy passed away peacefully on November 26, 2021 in Sandy Springs, Georgia. She is survived by her daughter Georgia Milton Sheats, son-in-law Bill Sheats, granddaughter Molly Sheats, sisters-in-law Martha Milton, Anne Thompson, Sylvia Roseen, Bettie Russell, brother-in-law Bob Milton, cousin-in-law Dr. Paul Ferguson and many beloved nieces and nephews.
A luncheon will be scheduled to celebrate her life and she and Jim will be buried together at Arlington Cemetery in Sandy Springs, GA. As per Peggy’s wishes if you would like to honor her you can make a donation to:
