Marcia Jacobsen Wade

Marcia Bryan Wade, 76, after a valiant and protracted battle, has moved on to victory in Heaven. An accident in the family’s kitchen on April 25 left Marcia with third-degree burns over nearly 30 percent of her body. She was admitted to the Grady Burn Unit at Grady Memorial Hospital, one of the finest treatment facilities in the nation for burns, and placed in an induced coma. Restorative surgeries were performed and the initial work was nearly complete when a relatively unknown virus invaded her pancreas. Marcia’s weakened body succumbed on July 19, 2017. Born on August 8, 1940, in Tampa, Fla., Marcia Bryan graduated from Henry B. Plant High School in Tampa. She earned a B.S. in Education at the University of Georgia, where she met T.R. “Rogers” Wade, a fellow student and her future husband. They were married 54 years and made their home in Sandy Springs, Ga., where the UGA alumna remained an ardent Bulldog supporter. In the early years of their marriage, Marcia was employed by Eastern Air Lines and the couple enjoyed many trips, for both business and pleasure, to distant countries throughout the world. In 1972, Marcia was deeply involved in the creation and launching of Leadership Georgia, Georgia’s premiere program for developing future state leaders. She was also active in the early stages of the development of the Georgia Public Policy Foundation, where Rogers served as president and is currently chairman of the Board of Trustees. Over the decades, Marcia built and maintained friendships with the men and women who have been and are the leaders of Georgia and our nation. Hundreds of cards and letters came to Marcia during the nearly three months she was in the Grady Burn Unit’s ICU. Although she remained in an induced coma until the end, Rogers shared with her the outpouring of love and the torrent of prayers from people from all over America. A beloved friend, a gracious Southern belle, role model and trusted confidante to all who knew her, Marcia’s life and the love she gave her husband will be in the hearts and minds of all who were fortunate to cross her path during her 76 years with us. Her heartfelt presence will be missed by many. Marcia was preceded in death by her parents, Jones and Eula Bryan of Tampa, Fla., and is survived by her husband, Rogers Wade of Atlanta and her cousins, Linda Gettle, of Cartersville, Ga., and Nancy Wade and Caroline Pierce of Chattanooga. A memorial service will be held Friday, July 28 at 11 a.m. at Sandy Springs Chapel, with visitation from 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the UGA Foundation and noted for Marcia B. Wade Student Intern Scholarship; mailed to UGA Libraries, Administrative Office, Athens, GA 30602-1641.
