Kay Elizabeth Hudgins Duhig died on April 25, 2012 at the age of 75. Kay was the devoted wife of 54 years of James Joseph Duhig, Jr. and the loving mother of their eight children. She is survived by her husband and all of her children—Maryanne Siek and husband Stephen Siek, Beth Radke and husband Brian Radke, Jim Duhig and wife Anne Duhig, Joe Duhig and wife Phatcharida Duhig, Susan Duhig, Kathy Usher and husband Jonathan Usher, Amy Duhig, and John Duhig and wife Tracy Duhig. She was also the proud grandmother of 11 grandchildren. Kay was born on April 28, 1936 in Cartersville, Georgia, the daughter of Alan Elbert “K.C.” Hudgins and Nellie Maude Howren Hudgins. She was a small town girl with big dreams, who moved to Atlanta as a young woman to study nursing, a profession that offered excitement as well as the opportunity to care for others. Kay graduated as a registered nurse from the Crawford W. Long School of Nursing in 1957. She left nursing to raise her family, though she put her nursing skills to good use as a mother, while also becoming a proficient cook, chauffeur, and counselor. Kay’s warmth and sense of humor made her the heart of her large family. She loved listening to music and passed this love of music on to her children. When her children were grown, Kay returned to nursing part-time. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 30, 2012 at St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church, 7171 Glenridge Drive NE, Sandy Springs, GA 30328. Kay was a parishioner at St. Jude since 1966, and all eight of her children attended St. Jude School. The burial will follow in Arlington Memorial Park. The family will hold a visitation on Sunday, April 29, 2012 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with a prayer service from 6:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at Sandy Springs Chapel, 136 Mt. Vernon Hwy, Sandy Springs, GA 30328. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the American Red Cross or the St. Jude St. Vincent De Paul Society.
