Gwynne McFarling Daniel, 82, passed away October 10, 2024 at the Wellstar Tranquility Hospice in Kennesaw, Georgia. A native of Plantersville, Mississippi, she was born November 7, 1941. Gwynne was the daughter of the late Boyce and Derie McFarling. She graduated from Tupelo High School in 1959 and then attended Wood Junior College and MS State College for Women. While at “the W,” Gwynne excelled in secretarial studies which led her down an uncommon path for women at that time – a career. Gwynne worked for several government agencies including as lead secretary for US Congressman Tom Abernathy in Washington, DC and the Mississippi state Governor’s office in Jackson, MS.
Marrying her husband of 40 years, the late Hines Daniel, in 1974, Gwynne relocated to Atlanta, GA where she resided for the remainder of her life. It was in Atlanta where Gwynne undertook what she considered her two most important roles – wife and mother. While she may have given up her career, she certainly never stopped working. Gwynne became CEO of the home, ensuring all aspects of domestic life were completed smoothly and with frugality. She absolutely loved to entertain, and many an hour was spent planning menus, seating assignments and table decorations.
Upon Hines’ retirement, Gwynne traveled to all 50 states and most of Western Europe. She also picked up the hobby of genealogy where her biggest desire was to learn the name of the ship that brought the McFarling family to America.
Gwynne is survived by her daughter, Karen (Brian), and two grandsons, Asa and Thaddeus. She is also survived by her sister, Carole, and three beloved nieces – DeAnne, Courtney and Lori as well as their families.
A funeral service will take place at HM Patterson & Son – Arlington Chapel (173 Allen Rd, Sandy Springs, GA 30328) on Friday, October 18, 2024 at 2:00pm. Burial will follow immediately after at Arlington Memorial Park. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home on October 17, 2024 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to one of Gwynne’s favorite causes – the Plantersville Cemetery Association at PO Box 285, Plantersville, MS 38862.
