Dr. Edward E. Zwig, devoted husband, father and grandfather, died March 30, 2012. Born April 26, 1932, to Robert and Minnie Zwig in Detroit, Michigan, Ed attended Winterholter Elementary School and Denfee Junior High School. In 1945 he moved to Miami, Florida, where he attended Miami Senior High School, graduating on February 4, 1950, where he was honored as “Most Intellectual”. He entered Emory University in March of 1950 and was a member of Alpha Epsilon Pi Fraternity. In 1952 he received acceptance into the Emory Dental School, serving on the Intrafraternity Council for 3 years and was President of his dental fraternity, Alpha Omega. Upon graduation in 1956, he entered the Naval Dental Corp. with the rank of Lieutenant. Ed married the love of his life Jane Alice Margoles, on April 7, 1957 in Mequon, Wisconsin. Their love affair lasted 55 years. After leaving the Navy, he began the practice of general dentistry in Miami, Florida; however, after a few years he entered graduate school at New York University to specialize in Periodontics. Returning to Atlanta in 1964, he began the practice of Periodontics, and became active in the community. He joined the Reform synagogue, The Temple, and soon became a well-respected member of the Atlanta community, donating his time and services to the Ben Massell Clinic, Emory Dental School, Hinman Society and Northern District Dental Society. His passion was making a difference in the lives of the people he loved and respected: his family, friends and patients. Ed was an active man, an avid skier and runner, and had a passion for books and working with his hands. He loved the island of Nantucket and the mountains of Colorado, and spent much of his time there. An inspiration to all who knew him, Ed battled his illness, Pulmonary Fibrosis, with grace and dignity. With the beautiful legacy he left, he will be greatly missed by everyone that knew him. Dr. Zwig is survived by his wife, Jane M. Zwig, his children, Marcy Solmson (James) Carol Andersson (Wolf) and Andrew Zwig (John), granddaughters, Stefanie Solmson and Catherine Solmson, sister-in law and brother -in law, Joan and Dr. Eugene Bloom, nieces Margie Albert (Ira), Stacey Schlafstein (Barry), Robin Wolf (David), uncle, Walter Zwig and cousins, Lisa Gerstein (Ira), Tony Zwig (Thea) and Adam Zwig. Memorial Services will be held on Tuesday, April 3rd, 12:00 p.m. at The Temple, 1589 Peachtree Street, Atlanta, GA. 30309. In lieu of flowers please consider a memorial donation to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation, The Alfred and Adele Davis Academy or The Atlanta Humane Society.
