Charles Everett Dixon, Jr. known to family and friends as "Buddy" or "Charlie", passed away on December 3, 2022, at age 87 in Atlanta, Georgia. Charlie and his surviving wife, Betty Jane Jones Dixon, were both natives of Danville, Kentucky, and graduates of Danville High School.
After serving two years in the Army, Charlie began his career in telecommunications at Western Electric, working in Cincinnati OH where his son, Rusty, was born and in Atlanta GA, where his daughter, Kim, was born. He was a Systems Analyst with AT&T when he retired.
Ever the athlete, Charlie helped establish the Senior Men's Tennis Program at Blackburn Park in Brookhaven GA, bringing his great love for the game to fellow enthusiasts who became beloved friends. He was most at home on a tennis court and was always a fierce but fair competitor.
His family are grateful for Charlie’s unconditional love and support. He will be deeply missed. In addition to his wife, survivors include his son Charles Everett “Rusty” Dixon, III (Rhonda) of Gallatin, TN, and his daughter Kimberly Dixon Hoffman (Len) of Athens, GA. Other survivors are a sister, Sara Dixon Hester of England and three brothers, David “Mack” Dixon of Vermont, Barry Dixon, and Stephen Dixon both of Atlanta, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A private service will be held at Bellevue Cemetery in Danville, KY.
