It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Brett Walton Sturgis, age 44, on Friday, July 12. He was preceded in death by his father, William Alfred “Fred” Sturgis, and is survived by his loving mother, Anita Sturgis; his devoted brother and sister-in-law, Fred and Melissa Sturgis; his sister and brother-in-law, Kelly and Bruce Robertson; and his beloved nieces and nephews, Lanie, Reid, and Emma Sturgis, and Will and Andrew Robertson.
Brett had a brilliant mind and a desire to learn about and understand the world around him. He was a proud alumnus of the Georgia Institute of Technology, where he earned his B.S. in Computer Science. During his time at Georgia Tech, Brett was not only an academic achiever but also an active participant in campus life. He played club rugby and was a dedicated member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity.
After graduating, Brett pursued a career in software development, where his intelligence and passion for technology were evident. Outside of his professional life, Brett was an avid video gamer and movie buff, and had a particular fondness for Johnny Cash’s music. His intellectual curiosity was reflected in his love for reading and his deep spirituality. He was also a fervent sports enthusiast, with an unwavering loyalty to Georgia Tech basketball and football, and he was a dedicated supporter of the Atlanta Braves.
Brett was known for his gentle soul and kind heart, touching the lives of those who knew him. He had a quiet yet thoughtful presence which brought comfort to those around him. His memory will forever be cherished by his family and friends.
